GameStop 'Temporarily Pauses' Unlimited Used Games Program

There is now no timeframe for when PowerPass will be reinstated, so if that was part of your holiday gift plans, you may want to find another option for the gamer in your life.

GameStop is temporarily suspending its recently launched PowerPass program. After six months, you could keep one of the games.

Since then, GameStop itself has confirmed the delay, saying that it has made a decision to "temporarily pause" the PowerPass service due to "a few program limitations we have identified". For $60 (which covered six months of the service), players could check out pre-owned GameStop games indefinitely.

According to leaked documentation regarding PowerPass, the service was supposed to officially launch on November 19.

That means any in-store advertisements for PowerPass have been removed and put in storage until further notice.

Google's Android distribution numbers for November confirm a minimal increase for Oreo
In the month of September, both versions of Android Nougat were up slightly, and had a total share of 15.8 percent. Meanwhile, Android 7.0 rose 1.8 percentage points to 17.6%, while 7.1 saw a one point increased to 3%.

GameStop's entrance into the game-rental market comes amid the company's continued financial difficulties. However, according to the wording in the statement that GameStop provided, it appears that at least some customers have been given early access to the service. "For those guests who have already purchased the service, we will allow them to bring the pass, and video game they have checked-out, back to receive a full refund". In addition, we are allowing them to pick out any Pre-Owned video game for free.

Assuming PowerPass is relaunched in a functional manner sometime in 2018, this is still not the outcome GameStop wanted right now. Meanwhile, the Steam platform from Valve made this the preferred method for PC gamers years ago.

For now, buying games at GameStop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange.

Today, GameStop is temporarily putting the brakes on the service, citing "program limitations" that don't allow them to serve their customers in the way that they feel is best. Along similar lines, Nintendo is set to launch a Netflix-like service for classic retro games on its Switch platform in 2018.
