Despite Threats From Owners, Jerry Jones Says He Won't Stop Fighting Goodell

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not worried about backlash over his attempts to slow down Roger Goodell's new deal

NBC's Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that multiple owners have discussed the possibility of using the nuclear option - the NFL's executive committee has the power to force an owner out for "conduct detrimental to the welfare of the league" - on the rogue owner.

The Cowboys owner appeared on 105.3 The Fan - where he shot down the suggestion he could be forced out. and said he hasn't heard a peep about any such plan from the league or any other owner. Which is fitting, given that the lawsuit would arise from Jones' objection to the many millions to be paid to Commissioner Roger Goodell under his next contract.

The Compensation Committee now consists of Falcons owner Arthur Blank, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, Giants co-owner John Mara, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Steelers owner Art Rooney II, and Texans owner Bob McNair.

The compensation committee held a conference call Monday and then gave Jones a cease-and-desist warning, the New York Times reported.

Jones blew off the threats from his fellow owners.

Thieves dig 25-foot tunnel into bank
The robbers made their move over the weekend when the bank was shut and managed to steal valuables from 30 of the 225 lockers. Employees of the bank, located in a Mumbai suburb, discovered the robbery on Monday morning and alerted the police.

"If somebody is asserting that or thinking about that kind of thing, they're not knowledgeable on how things work in the National Football League".

Jones wants all owners to be able to sign off on the details of Goodell's new contract, which would begin in 2019, even though the owners voted unanimously in May to allow the compensation committee to negotiate the specifics of the deal.

The criticisms around Goodell focus on his bungling of the league's domestic violence policy and the Bountygate and Deflategate controversies.

"Roger [Goodell] has nearly 18 months left [on his contract]", Jones explained. We've got all the time in the world to extend him. However, with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones doing his best to single-handedly wreck Goodell's extension as part of Jones' ongoing feud with the commissioner, things have gotten ugly in the prolonged discussions. "We need to slow this train down".
