'Dragon Age' Creative Director Mike Laidlaw Leaves BioWare

Mike Laidlaw has been paramount to works such as the Mass Effect trilogy, the Dragon Age franchise, and the infamous Jade Empire title.

Here's the official reason why, BioWare fans ... straight from Mike Laidlaw's Twitter:"It's with a mix of emotions that I'm announcing my time with BioWare has ended".

A new game (presumably, though not necessarily Dragon Age 4) was heavily alluded to by Alexis Kennedy (writer on Sunless Sea) earlier this year.

There's no word yet on exactly why Laidlaw left BioWare or what he plans to do next professionally. In his 14 years at the studio, he worked on multiple RPG franchises, including Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

"It's been an honor to be a part of the Dragon Age team", he said in his statement.

He doesn't get specific about any future plans, other than a desire to play some "amazing games" that his peers have created over the past few years. Your passion inspires and I look forward to our next adventures together. BioWare's most recent game, Mass Effect Andromeda, underperformed according to EA, leading to a rumored cancellation of future single-player DLC and a general franchise hiatus. Just like that folks, the golden age of modern BioWare loses a creative force. So after 14 years of hard work and a sack on his back with a lot of successful titles, Laidlaw has made a decision to step off the directing for BioWare and go back to what we all want to do at some point, play the game.
