McCain Backs Legislation To Block Trump's Transgender Military Ban

If GOP Senators Want to Win in 2018 They’ll Kill This NDAA Transgender Amendment

Earlier, the Pentagon said transgender personnel can keep serving and can re-enlist well into next year while the officials figure out how to implement Trump's ban.

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators on Friday introduced legislation to protect transgender troops from being kicked out of the military. "Transgender service members are expertly trained, well-qualified and deeply committed to protecting our country and the Senators who refused to speak out are not only directly attacking them, but our armed forces as a whole".

"Any member of the military who meets the medical and readiness standards should be allowed to serve-including those who are transgender", he said.

"Despite being denied a vote on my bipartisan amendment to defend our transgender service members, we are not giving up in this fight", Gillibrand said in a statement Friday.

The LGBTQ organizations behind a second lawsuit challenging President Trump's ban on transgender military members have asked for a federal court to issue an injunction that would stop the Department of Defense from carrying out the ban.

Big game expected for Julio Jones against Packers on Sunday
Randall underwent groin surgery last October that cost him five games, and later battled through shoulder and foot injuries. The Packers and Falcons have combined for an average of 70 points per game in their last three games against each other.

Trump's August 25 directive ordered the military to immediately stop paying for transition-related medical expenses, unless a service member's health was in jeopardy.

"Current transgender members will continue to serve throughout the military and continue to receive necessary medical treatment as prescribed by their medical provider", Pentagon spokesperson Col. Rob Manning told reporters Friday. But Trump also gave Mattis six months to come up with a policy on how to address those now serving, leaving the door open to permitting their continued service.

Sarah McBride, spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement the memo and new legislation demonstrate the Pentagon and lawmakers, unlike Trump, are willing to support transgender troops.

Transgender troops that are now serving in the United States military will continue receiving the medical treatment they need and will not be evicted from the armed forces until at least February. Many of them have been deployed to warzones multiple times. "There is no medical or psychiatric justification for the categorical exclusion of transgender individuals from the Armed Forces". McCain, along with Senators Jack Reed, Kirsten Gillibrand, Susan Collins, introduced the bill as a standalone piece of legislation.

Collins, also, added that anyone who is willing to serve should be able to.
