Born Sept. 15, 1903, near Zarnow, Poland, in what was then a part of the Russian Empire, he worked in a candy factory between the wars, and became a skilled confectioner.

After the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany in 1939, Mr Kristal and his family were moved into the Lodz ghetto.

After the war ended Kristal married another Holocaust survivor and moved with her to Israel in 1950 where he built a new family and opened his own successful confectionary business. There, he opened another sweet shop and continued to run the business up until his retirement.
