Walmart issues apology for back-to-school gun display

Walmart apologizes for back to school gun marketing

Photos of it spread like wildfire on social media.

Walmart says it's investigating a photo that purports to show a sign reading "Own The School Year Like A Hero" displayed atop a gun-filled case in one of its stores. On Twitter, users demanded the retailer to "explain this" and asked, "What are you suggesting?"

Walmart, for their part, did publicly apologize for the display, calling it bad and saying they'd investigate how the sign got there in the first place.

Walmart, the largest seller of guns and ammunition in the United States, said it was looking into whether the sign was placed there by mistake, or if it was done by a customer as prank. 'This was frightful and we removed the sign as soon as we found out'.

Giroud header seals Arsenal win in season opening thriller
The 2017/18 Premier League season kicks off on Friday as Arsenal host Leicester City at the Emirates. Arsenal will be among the sides hoping to challenge for the Premier League this season.

"It was never confirmed the sign was [at the store in Indiana], and it wasn't confirmed that this was the store in question", Mr. Crowson said. It wasn't immediately clear if the sign had been removed.

That tweet, though, wasn't the first time Walmart heard about the signage situation.

'We regret this situation and are looking into how it could have happened, ' the spokesperson added.

The retailer also drew fire past year before September 11 when a store in Panama City Beach, Florida used Coca-Cola products to build two towers signifying the World Trade Center. A statement said: "This display was meant to honour local firefighters and to support their organisation's upcoming event". A NY church, for instance, petitioned in 2014 to have a shareholder vote on whether the company should sell products that "endanger public safety and well-being".
