ObamaCare deadline for insurers delayed by three weeks

How Trump can upend Obamacare without Congress

Almost 8 in 10 Americans say President Donald Trump should be trying to make the health law work, according to poll conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

For example, 6 in 10 Republicans and Trump backers want the GOP to continue its repeal and replace drive in Congress. About half of Republicans and supporters of President Trump say the Trump administration should do what they can to make the law work (52 percent and 51 percent, respectively) while about four in ten say they should do what they can to make the law fail (40 percent and 39 percent, respectively).

Those payments reimburse insurers for providing discounted plans to low-income customers, but it is unclear if the Trump administration will continue them long-term.

Almost two weeks ago, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway said the president was going to decide that week about whether to continue the CSRs. Insurers in those states have until September 27 to sign final contracts to participate in the exchanges next year.

KFF found that the highest proposed premium rate increases were in Wilmington, up 49 percent from $423 to $631 a month, up 34 percent from $258 to $346 in Albuquerque, N.M., and up 33 percent from $296 to $394 in Richmond, Va.

However, about 6.7 million people who buy coverage in the individual market could be hit by these premium spikes since they don't qualify for federal subsidies, according to a separate Kaiser analysis, which first appeared in Axios Thursday. The House in May passed a bill to partially repeal the law and drastically cut Medicaid.

A large majority of the public disapproves of Trump's suggestion that Republicans "let Obamacare implode" and move on to other policy priorities - 78% of those polled said Trump should do what he can to make the law work.

Still, confusion about the law remains.

The same number of people say that insurers decisions not to sell insurance plans in certain marketplaces will affect everyone with insurance.

The Kaiser Health Tracking Poll was conducted August 1-6 and involved random calls to the cellphones and landlines of 1,211 adults. Only 34 percent of Americans agree with him, while 62 percent favor moving on, including 47 percent of Republicans, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation poll released Friday. The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
