Elderly man found dead in lift one month after being reported missing

Komisarchik died between the morning of July 6 and August 2 after he was unable to escape an elevator possibly because of dementia. His body was discovered inside a parking-garage elevator at the Woodstream Village apartments

The Post reported that in compliance with Denver city code, the elevator auto should have had an around-the-clock emergency switch labeled "Alarm", and an intercom system or phone labeled "Help" for those inside to contact security.

"How he got in there and when he got in there is obviously what we're trying to figure out", said John White, spokesman for Denver police.

One reason for the tragedy may have been the fact that the parking garage where the elevator was located was closed for maintenance.

The remains of an elderly man have been found inside an elevator in Colorado, where authorities believe he'd been trapped for a month.

In some cases the alarms are connected to the Denver Fire Department or an elevator monitoring company, which is responsible for investigating an emergency call.

Yelena went on to say her father walked to check his mailbox and then into the Woodstream Village apartment complex office, and then just seemed to disappear.

During an interview with 9 News, the 82-year-old man's daughter, identified only as Yelena, said the last time she saw her dad he was wearing pajama trousers and a striped shirt on the fifth of July.

"Something is not right", Pixley said.

It was at this point that Gordon moved closer to Omarosa from the podium as she sat in a chair. "I don't want to hear a lecture". He ended the event by joking, "I'll see y'all at the White House Christmas Party in December" the paper reported .

Crews last conducted a routine inspection of the elevator in December 2016 and found it to be in good working order, Denver Fire Department spokesman Capt. Greg Pixley told CNN. MEI did not reply to several phone messages left by the Denver Post seeking comment.

Greystar Management Services oversees operations at the Woodstream apartment complex.

An autopsy of Komisarchik has been completed, but the cause and manner of his death are still under investigation, said Steve Castro, a spokesman for the Denver medical examiner. The company said they are now investigating the incident with local authorities. A multitude of residents had reportedly complained about the smell coming from the elevator area but maintain nothing was done to investigate or eliminate the odor.

The fire department did not receive any emergency calls from that particular elevator vehicle during the period of time Komisarchik was in it.

He said they are working to determine "how he got in there and when he got in there".

Almost a month later, a Denver fire lieutenant was inspecting an apartment complex adjacent to Woodstream that is also managed by Greystar when the maintenance manager received a call from elevator fix staff saying they thought there was a body in the elevator.

Denver police detectives are still attempting to determine how the 82-year-old man got inside the inoperable elevator.
