Facebook Watch is here to take on YouTube. Find out more details

Facebook is Now Officially Ready to Challenge You Tube Services

People already watch a lot of videos on Facebook, but mostly when they scroll down their main news feed.

Imagine that all these users that Facebook have gathered throughout the years; now, the Watch can also capitalize on the huge amount of audience and statistics they have.

A Facebook spokesman told CNNMoney that the company does not have a full list of shows yet, and emphasized that this week's launch is only a "limited test".

A recent blog post by Daniel Danker revealed that Facebook was introducing Watch on its platform.

Initially, Watch will be available to a limited group of Facebook users in the United States and more widely to US users in the coming weeks, Facebook, said.

In an apparent bid to take on Google-owned YouTube, Facebook has rolled out "Watch" - a redesigned video platform for creators and publishers. It was reported then that the company spent over 100 million United States dollars to fund original video content channels from celebrities, digital video creators, and media companies. While Facebook Live videos can let agents post jaw-dropping travel footage in real time, once the broadcast is over, that video can be quickly pushed down users' newsfeeds, making it hard to find again. Most of these shows are usually organized around what communities around one are watching.

Watch will be customised according to what users, their friends and the communities they're part of are consuming, Facebook says - but will also feature sections such as "Most Talked About" and "What's Making People Laugh" to help steer users to shows they might like.

HomePod Firmware Leak Tips IPhone 8 5.8-inch Screen
Earlier this week, a case for the iPhone 8 revealed what appears to be the best peek at the much-anticipated handset yet. It is about the same size as the current iPhone 7 , but it has a larger display with a bezel-less design.

Facebook's competitors like YouTube and Snapchat have already experimented with creating original video content. YouTube Red funds several original series, giving bigger production budgets to some of its biggest stars.

The platform will also include live shows - for example question and answer sessions with motivational speakers. If you like any show, you can just follow the show, and latest episodes will then appear in your Watchlist.

"Shows are made up of episodes -- live or recorded -- that follow a consistent theme or storyline".

James Murdoch, CEO of 21 Century Fox, praised the value of those incumbent online video platforms during the broadcaster's Q2 earnings call Wednesday, calling YouTube TV and Hulu's live TV offering "significantly valuable" in diversifying pricing models and expanding access to TV content for viewers.

"Similarly, we'll be opening up Shows to a limited group of creators and plan to roll out to all soon", he added.

By hosting original programming, Facebook could boost ad revenue and give people a reason to frequently return to the News Feed for content they can't get anywhere else.
